The Incomprehensible Majesty of God
Scripture presents God as infinitely beyond human comprehension – His ways unsearchable, His power unlimited, and His wisdom unfathomable. Our proper response isn’t to assess His capabilities but to worship in humble submission to His revealed truth.
The Limitless Nature of God
Biblical descriptions of God’s attributes:
- Omniscient: Knows our thoughts and future (Psalm 139:1-4)
- Omnipotent: Spoke creation into existence (Genesis 1:1)
- Omnipresent: Not constrained by space or time (Jeremiah 23:24)
- Immutable: Never changes in His perfect nature (Malachi 3:6)
The Danger of Questioning God
Scripture warns against:
- Evaluating God by human standards (Isaiah 55:8-9)
- Demanding explanations for His ways (Romans 9:20)
- Trusting human wisdom over divine revelation (1 Corinthians 1:25)
The Proper Posture Before God
We should respond with:
- Humble Faith: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10)
- Earnest Seeking: “If any lacks wisdom, let him ask God” (James 1:5)
- Confident Trust: “Your word is truth” (John 17:17)
Testing All Things by Scripture
God’s Word provides:
- The ultimate standard for truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Protection against false teaching (Acts 17:11)
- Assurance amid life’s mysteries (Deuteronomy 29:29)
Resting in God’s Sovereign Wisdom
When faced with God’s inscrutable ways, we need neither blind acceptance nor skeptical doubt – but childlike trust in our Father who knows all things. The proper response to divine mystery isn’t frustrated questioning but awestruck worship of the One whose thoughts are infinitely higher than ours, whose power created the universe, and whose love sent His Son for our salvation.
