The Unfathomable Love of God
Human Love vs. Divine Love
| Our Love | God’s Love |
|---|---|
| Conditional (“if you…”) | Unconditional (John 3:16) |
| Based on feelings | Based on His nature (1 John 4:8) |
| Seeks something in return | Gave everything first (Romans 5:8) |
| Changes over time | Never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8) |
The Prodigal’s Portrait of Love
The story in Luke 15 reveals:
- Rebellion doesn’t cancel love: The father waited (v20)
- Repentance triggers restoration: The father ran (v20)
- Relationship over rules: The father celebrated (v22-24)
This is how God loves you.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
— 1 John 3:1
Four Dimensions of God’s Love (Ephesians 3:18)
- Wide enough to embrace every sinner
- Long enough to cover your entire past
- High enough to lift you from shame
- Deep enough to heal your hidden wounds
Your Response to Radical Love
1. Receive it fully (Romans 8:38-39)
2. Return to Him (James 4:8)
3. Reflect it to others (John 13:34)
Prayer of Surrender
Father, I confess I’ve often loved conditionally while You love perfectly. Thank You for pursuing me like the prodigal’s father. Help me to:
* Stop trying to earn what You freely give
* See myself through Your eyes of grace
* Love others with Your supernatural love
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
